She graduated from Winthrop in 1922 with a degree in physical education. In the Spring of 1922, she broke the American record for the shot put and earned a spot on the1922 International Team Tour (forerunner of Olympic Games).  She carried the flag for U.S. team. She won first place in the shot put, took third place in the javelin throw and in the 1,000 meter run, and was fourth in the 300 meter run as she helped the U.S. team capture second place.  In all, she brought home six medals, including one gold. In 1961, she became the first woman in South Carolina history to be inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.She served as director of athletics at Columbia College in Columbia, SC, and passed away on April 5, 1981 at age 80.
