Daniel Carte (Graduating Class of 2014) had an outstanding baseball career before being drafted in the second round of the 2005 MLB Draft as the 52nd pick by the Colorado Rockies. In 2005, he was selected a second team All-American by Baseball America, the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Daniel was named a Second Team All-Region performer in 2004 and a First Team All- Region player in 2005. In 2003, he was a Baseball America Freshman All-American First Team selection and was also named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American and the Big South Rookie of the Year. He holds the Winthrop single season records for home runs (19), at bats (270) and games played (66), and ranks third for most career home runs (42). He played five years in the Rockies organization and one year on an independent league team before coaching at Falmouth in the Cape Cod League and on the collegiate level at Radford and West Virginia. He now serves as an area scouting supervisor for the Chicago Cubs organization. In 2013, he was inducted into the Cape Cod League Hall of Fame after earning Cape Cod League MVP
