Cristi Curtis, class of 2000, graduated from Winthrop with a degree in special education.  Curtis was a four-year starter on the volleyball team at the setter position.  In addition to her performance on the court, Curtis also excelled in the classroom and was a three-time selection on the Big South Conference All-Academic Team in 1997, 1998 and 1999 while earned Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1999. Curtis still ranks in several top 10 career and single season school records. She ranks second on the career assist list, sixth on the career digs list, and fourth on the career service aces list.  She was selected to the All-Big South Conference 2nd Team in 1999 and also was named to the 1999 Big South All-Tournament Team. She went on to become a high school volleyball coach in Michigan before her untimely death in 2007.
