Baseball Travels To Gardner-Webb This Weekend For First Conference Road Series Of Season

Eagles Own A 31-6 All-Time Record Against The Runnin’ Bulldogs

The Winthrop baseball team will hit the road this weekend for its first Big South Conference road series of the season at Gardner-Webb with all three games being played at John Henry Moss Stadium.

Game times for the three-game series are 6 p.m. on Friday, and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Winthrop leads the all-time series over Gardner-Webb 31-6 and 10-3 in Boiling Springs. The Eagles have posted winning streaks of both 11 and 17 games in the series, with this weekend being the first time both teams have played at John Henry Moss Stadium.  Winthrop took two of out of three in the final weekend of the season last year from the Runnin' Bulldogs, but Gardner-Webb swept the Eagles during the 2010 season.

The Winthrop offense is led by Patrick Gamblin with a .244 average at the plate, and is tied with Justin Hopper for the team-lead in home runs with two each. Matt Lobacz has driven in a team-high 21 RBI on the season. Two of the Eagles weekend starters, Matt Pierpont and Eric Ruth, each have two wins on the season, while Tyler Klitsch posts a team-low 2.38 ERA in 41.2 innings pitched.

The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by head coach Rusty Stroupe, who is currently in his 10th season at the helm of the Gardner-Webb program. The Runnin' Bulldogs offense is led by John Harris with a .360 average and 22 RBI in 86 appearances at the plate. Dusty Quattlebaum has hit a team-high five home runs on the season and is the only Gardner-Webb player to start in all 25 games this season. The Runnin' Bulldogs pitching staff is led by Brock Wilson with a 1.93 ERA in 28.0 innings pitched, and is tied for the team-lead in wins with Beau Hilton at three each.
