Biography

2011: Finished his first season at Winthrop hitting .200 (5-for-25) in 21 games played with seven starts. Posted one home run and four RBI to go with five runs scored, eight total bases and .320 slugging percentage. Went 2-for-3 at the plate in his first start as an Eagle in 8-6 loss to Kent State on Feb. 27. Drove in a career-high three RBI in 15-1 win at Presbyterian College on May 6 and also tied his career-best of two hits. Also hit first home run at Winthrop in the contest, and scored three runs. Recorded other RBI on game-winning fielder’s choice in 6-5 13-inning victory over #24 Coastal Carolina on May 14. Had two multi-hit and one multi-RBI game. On the mound, made eight relief appearances with one start which came against #7 North Carolina on Apr. 5. Compiled a 9.64 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched, and also surrendered 14 runs (10 earned) on 20 hits, two walks and four strikeouts while opponents hit .444 against him. Assisted in one shutout last season. Had season-long outing against the Tar Heels, where he tossed 2.2 innings and gave up five runs on six hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Did not allow an earned run in four of his eight relief outings.

2010: Redshirted after transferring from the University of South Carolina.

South Carolina: Played in 29 games as a freshman in 2008 with 12 starts in the outfield. Batted .245 with one home run, four RBI and scored 10 runs. On the mound, made four appearances in relief and put together an ERA of 5.04 in 5.1 innings of work. Hit first collegiate homer in a 6-0 victory over Clemson on Apr. 16, 2008. Was used primarily on the mound during his sophomore season, making six appearances and tallied a 13.50 ERA. Pitched 5.1 innings, giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits, one walk and seven walks.

High School: Named Class AAAA All-State as a senior in 2007 and was selected to the SC/NC Select All-Star Team. During his senior season, hit .457 with six homers and 30 RBI; also pitched in 53 innings and posted a 5-1 record and a 1.32 ERA.

Personal: Born on Dec. 2, 1988. Is the son of Barry Hopper and Rita Young. Majoring in History.
