ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Winthrop University head baseball coach
Mike McGuire has announced the hiring of
Corey Kubbs as Assistant Pitching Coach & Director of Pitching Development, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
"Corey brings a lot of experience and knowledge to our pitching staff," said McGuire. "He has been a pitching coach at both the Division 1 and Division 2 levels."
Most recently, Kubbs served as pitching coach at Morehead State University, where he helped the Eagles improve by 17 wins, reach the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and cut the team's ERA from 9.10 to 7.39. His staff also helped Morehead State defeat Louisville and a nationally ranked Kentucky team, the program's first time beating both schools since 1997.
Before that, Kubbs spent six years as assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where he helped lead the Cougars to a .593 winning percentage and a 2022 Crossroads League title while developing a conference player of the year and two All-Americans.
"I'm very excited to add Corey to our coaching staff, He will work well with Coach Stambaugh, and I believe we are positioned very well to make a significant impact in Pitching Development," McGuire added.
Kubbs earned his master's degree in strategic leadership from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 2017 and his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 2015.
