ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team begins its fall schedule on Friday, Sept. 25, under third-year head coach Mike McGuire. 

"I'm excited about getting on the field with our entire team," said McGuire. "Individual work has been very productive but I look forward to us getting on the field and competing together everyday together." 

The Eagles return 16 players from the ball club last year, while also welcoming 22 new players to the program, including 14 transfers and eight freshmen. 

The Winthrop returners are highlighted by Big South Conference First Teamer Corey Wouters, as he slashed .335/.399/.485 across 53 games in 2025-26, finishing with 67 hits, 34 RBI and 28 runs scored in his first season with Winthrop. 

Colin Crowley also returns to the hot corner for the Eagles after he was named ranked as the #10 prospect in the Big South for the 2027 draft by D1Baseball, as Luke Earnhardt takes the mound again for Winthrop after he was named to National Pitcher of the Year Award watch list during the season last year. 

Winthrop opens their fall schedule on Sept. 25 with its first day of practice, followed by two intersquad scrimmages on Sept. 26 & Sept. 27. Live play will begin with an intrasquad scrimmage, the full schedule is listed below:

• Friday, Oct. 2, 5 p.m. - Ontario Nationals (exhibition) 
• Tuesday, Oct. 6, 5 p.m. - Scout Day 
• Saturday, Oct. 10, TBA - Intrasquad 
• Sunday, Oct. 11, TBA - Intrasquad 
• Friday, Oct. 16, 6 p.m. - at Georgia Southern 
• Saturday, Oct. 17, 1 p.m. - at Georgia Southern 
• Friday, Oct. 23, 4 p.m. - at South Carolina 
• Saturday, Oct. 31, 1 p.m. - The Citadel 
• Tuesday-Sunday, Nov. 3-8, TBA - Fall World Series 

"We are playing a very good fall schedule that should test us and prepare us well for the upcoming spring," stated McGuire.
