BLACKSBURG, VA–Although the Winthrop men's and women's track teams did not bring home a championship trophy from the 2002 Big South Conference indoor championships they can brag about producing the top individual award winners as Rod Lorrick captured the Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer and Octavia Goode garnered Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer.
Liberty's men and women continued their domination of the conference by capturing the team titles for the fifth time in as many tries. The LU men finished with 209 points to outdistance second place Radford (82) while Winthrop was third (81). On the women's side, the Lady Flames posted 188 points while Coastal Carolina took second (157.5). Winthrop's women took sixth place with 47.5 points.
Winthrop had five individual titles with Lorrick and Goode capturing two events each and Wayne Alston one. Coach Ben Paxton's teams also captured 18 All-Big South Conference honors.
Lorrick, a senior from Irmo, placed first in both the 200 meters and the 400 meters. He turned in a time of 21.99 in the 200 and 48.54 for the 400. Goode, a freshman from xxxxx, finished first in the 60 meters with a time of 7.60 and in the 200 meters with a Big South Conference record time of 24.83. Alson captured the Big South shot put championship with a new school record.
Lorrick also earned All-BSC honors for his second place triple jump performance and as a member of the second place 4x400 meter relay team.
