Track & Field Heads to High Point For VertKlasse Meeting

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University track and field teams are back in action as they head to High Point University for the VertKlasse Meeting on Apr. 2 and 3. This marks the second competition for the Eagles this outdoor season after an impressive showing at the Big South/SoCon Challenge Mar. 20 and 21. Admission for spectators is free and spectator parking will be located at the College Village Shopping Center (1107 Lexington Ave) one block north of Vert Stadium.

ABOUT THE EAGLES 
  • Winthrop is coming off their outdoor season opener at UNC Asheville 
  • Newly minted head coach Raffael Craig guides the Eagles in his first season at the helm
  • The men's squad returns 25, adding ten newcomers 
  • The women's squad returns 16, and adds 13 new athletes 

LAST TIME OUT

ON THE TRACK 

  • Michael Boucher took home first in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.59 and then followed up with a personal best in the 200m dash with a final time of 21.93
  • Kevin Brown finished second in the men's 200m dash in a time of 21.19, besting his own school record
  • The 400H duo of Jurnii Lucas and Justin Powell went 1-2 finishing in 54.27 and 54.76, respectively
  • Tristen Patterson clocked a 48.62 in the men's 400m dash to take second in the event
  • Kendale Cooke followed in third with a personal best time of 48.72
  • Davis Kinard broke the two minute barrier for the first time in the 800m to claim fifth with a time of 1:58.37
  • Brianna Dooney shattered her personal best in the women's 1500 with a time of 4:44.95 to finish as the runner-up in the event
  • Jason Krell and Griffin McNeish went 2-3 in the men's 1500 with times of 3:59.12 and 4:04.42
  • The men's and women's 4x100m relay teams each took home first with times of 40.73 and 46.60
  • The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Patterson, Cooke, Lucas, and Brown finished first with a time of 3:14.58
IN THE FIELD
  • Maurion Jamison took first in the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.84m and set a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 6.82m to place sixth
  • Shadrach Nvodjo posted a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 6.76m to finish eighth
  • Brianna Breau finished runner-up in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 36.85m
  • Logan Ruehl threw a personal best in the men's discus with a mark of 45.20m to claim fourth overall
