Track & Field Shines at Big South vs SoCon Conference Challenge with Flurry of Personal Bests

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Winthrop University track and field teams competed at the Big South vs SoCon Conference Challenge on March 20-21. Full results can be found HERE. 
IN THE FIELD 
  • Maurion Jamison led Winthrop's field athletes, winning the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.84m and setting a personal best of 6.82m for sixth in the men's long jump 
  • Two more Eagles followed Jamison into the top 10 of the long jump, with Shadrach Nvodjo posting a personal-best 6.76m in eighth and Michael Boucher rounding out the top 10 at 6.63m 
  • Justin Powell also cracked the top 10 in the men's triple jump with a ninth-place mark of 13.50m 
  • In the men's javelin, Boyd Brackett, Gabe Little and Tyler Norris swept the third, fifth and eighth spots with throws of 45.78m, 45.18m and 37.63m, respectively 
  • Brianna Breau claimed runner-up honors in the women's javelin at 36.85m, while Michaela Hayes added an eighth-place finish at 24.15m 
  • Three Winthrop throwers cracked the top 10 in the men's hammer, led by Timothy Speaks' third-place mark of 48.01m, Mills Sharpe's sixth-place throw of 42.57m and Norris rounding out the top 10 at 36.92m 
  • Madison Washington and Maddie Spenner finished sixth and eighth in the women's hammer with marks of 41.73m and 41.58m 
  • Logan Ruehl set a personal best of 45.20m for fourth in the men's discus, while Spenner also posted a ninth-place mark of 35.06m in the women's discus 
  • Speaks and Brackett doubled back in the men's shot put, finishing eighth and 10th with throws of 13.80m and 13.43m 
  • Raffael Craig II cleared 4.02m for third in the men's pole vault, while Carina Fiorucci and Maya Flynn each cleared 3.07m to finish fourth and fifth in the women's event 
  • Nvodjo added a fifth-place clearance of 1.86m in the men's high jump 
  • Kennedi Sanders closed out a strong multi-event day with a third-place mark of 11.50m in the women's triple jump, a ninth-place long jump of 5.11m and a 10th-place clearance of 1.45m in the women's high jump 

ON THE TRACK 
  • Boucher took the men's 100m title in 10.59, then returned to post a personal-best fourth-place time of 21.93 in the 200m, where three Eagles total finished in the top 10 as Kevin Brown set a personal best of 21.19 for second and Carlos Frank Jr. crossed in 22.17 for seventh 
  • Frank Jr. also set a personal best of 10.80 for seventh in the men's 100m 
  • Jurnii Lucas took the men's 400m hurdles title in 54.27 as Justin Powell followed in second at 54.76 
  • Jordan Bailem set personal bests in both hurdle events, clocking 14.61 for fifth in the women's 100m hurdles and 1:08.36 for fourth in the women's 400m hurdles, with Kendall Crossley (6th, 1:08.75), Sydney Yarema (7th, 1:10.94) and Ariana Washington (9th, 1:12.87) joining Bailem in the top 10 of the 400m hurdles 
  • Tristen Patterson took second in the men's 400m in 48.62 as Kendale Cooke set a personal best of 48.72 for third 
  • Jade Reese crossed in 25.05 for seventh in the women's 200m 
  • Davis Kinard set a personal best of 1:58.37 to finish fifth in the men's 800m 
  • Three Winthrop runners cracked the top 10 in the men's 1500m, with Jason Krell taking second in 3:59.12, Griffin McNeish third in 4:04.42 and Mitchell Hill setting a personal best of 4:11.43 for eighth 
  • Brianna Dooney set a personal best of 4:44.95 to finish second in the women's 1500m 
  • Both relay squads swept the 4x100m titles, as the men's team of Patterson, Brown, Frank Jr. and Boucher won in 40.73 and the women's squad of Amaiya Whitlock, Katlyn Young-Coleman, Raven Verner and Reese claimed first in 46.60 
  • The men's 4x400m team of Patterson, Cooke, Lucas and Brown won in 3:14.58 as the women's squad of Maya Flynn, Yarema, Reese and Andraya Weeks finished fourth in 3:56.88

The Eagles will compete at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University on Apr. 2 and 3.
