ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University track and field teams will kickoff the 2026 outdoor season at the Big South/Southern Conference Challenge hosted by UNC Asheville on Mar. 20 and 21. The Big South/Southern Conference Challenge serves as an opportunity for teams to kick off their outdoor seasons and promote a "duel meet" environment while promoting the teams in the respective conferences.

ABOUT THE EAGLES 

• Winthrop is coming off the Big South Indoor Championships where both teams placed 7th overall
• Newly minted head coach Raffael Craig guides the Eagles in his first season at the helm
• The men's squad returns 25, adding ten newcomers 
• The women's squad returns 16, and adds 13 new athletes

LAST TIME OUT

ON THE TRACK 

• The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Kevin Brown, Shane King, Kendale Cooke, and Tristen Patterson took home gold in the final event of the Big South Indoor Championships
• Kayah Marques shattered her mile personal best with a time of 4:57.69 to place sixth
• Kevin Brown took home the silver medal in the men's 60m dash and followed up with a bronze medal in the men's 200m dash, setting a school record
• The women's distance medley relay team consisting of Brianna Dooney, Jayla Weeks, Kayah Marques, and Anna Conrad set a new school record with a time of 12:07.38

IN THE FIELD

• Maurion Jamison took home the bronze medal in the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.53m
• Raffael Craig II's 4,204 point performance in the men's heptathlon moved him to No. 2 in school history
