Eagles Continue Indoor Season At Gamecock Challenge This Saturday

Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off a performance at the VMI Invitational last weekend in which the Eagles won a pair of events and set a school record, Winthrop men's and women's track and field programs continue their indoor season at the Gamecock Challenge this Saturday.

  • Junior Johntavia Shaw and senior Kevin Brown led the Eagles with event wins and a school record at the VMI Invitational Friday and Saturday
  • In Friday's action, junior Timothy Speaks grabbed a third place in the 35lb. weight throw with a 16.54m toss
  • Shaw's come-from-behind win in the women's shot put highlighted Saturday's action
  • Shaw trailed USC Upstate's Rachel Davis going into the final throw, when she uncorked a 14.46m throw to win and set a new school record
  • Junior Faith Wood posted a solid performance in the women's triple jump, finishing second with a 11.61m effort
  • Freshman Jaylen Bostic and junior Maurion Jamison finished seventh and eighth in the triple jump with 14.16 and 14.15 efforts, respectively
  • In Friday's action, Brown took home the win in the 300m dash on VMI's banked oval
  • His time of 34.68 seconds bested the field while teammate Jurnii Lucas took home an eighth place in the event
