BOONE, N.C. – Winthrop men's & women's track & field began the 2021-22 indoor track and field season at the Appalachian State Invitational, posting several impressive performances.

In The Field
- All-conference performer Ambar Nunez-Gomez moved into second place on the all-time Winthrop women's weight throw performance list with a personal best mark of 18.07 meters (59-3.5)
- Nunez-Gomez also finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 11.43 meters (37-6)
- In the men's triple jump, Jelani Haigler finished third with a mark of 13.32 meters (43-8.5). He also finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.94 meters (19-6)
- Freshman Jaden Mathieu had an excellent debut performance in the high jump as he finished in third place with a jump of 1.88 meters (6-2)
- Libby Roush posted a fourth place finish in the women's weight throw with a toss of 15.15 meters (49-8.5)
- Freshman Daniel Voell made his mark in the throws as he was eighth in the weight throw (10.44 meters (34-3)) and the shot put (12.20 meters (40-0.5).
On The Track
- Toluwayan Agbeyomi finished second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.37 seconds
- Ian Gresham finished third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.08 seconds
- The Eagles had three scorers in the men's 400 meter dash with Triston Morgan (third, 51.15 seconds), Bautista Vivanco (fourth, 52.01 seconds), and Calvin Johnson (sixth, 53.03 seconds)
- Darren Frasier posted a fifth place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03
- Agbeyomi, Jonquez Webb, Kevin Brown, and Brailyn Washington combined for a time of 2:31.4 in the men's 4x300 meter relay, finishing in sixth place
- Winthrop finished eighth in the women's 4x300 meter relay as the team of Dee Burnett, Alliyah Brooks, Taylor Anderson, and Erica Tobin ran a time of 3:03.03
What's Next
The Eagles will have the rest of December off and are back in action at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina from Jan. 21-22
