Men’s Tennis Earns First Victory of the Season Over Wofford College 5-2

SPARTANBURG, SC- 
The Eagles grabbed their first win of the season this Thursday afternoon as they downed Wofford College 5-2.  At the No. 2 doubles spot, sophomore Peter Nagovnak (Kraubath, Austria) and junior Yuta Hirokawa (Niigata, Japan) took care of their doubles point with an 8-4 victory over Wofford's Keith and Sklar.  The freshman doubles duo of Steven Patrick (Knoxville, Tennessee) and Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) delivered at the No. 3 position as they clinched the decisive doubles point 8-7 (8) over Wofford's Duncan and Thompson after saving 5 match points.

Going into the singles round, the Eagles used their momentum to their advantage as they captured four of the six points.  Hirokawa made quick work of Wofford's Galloway at the No. 3 position as he came out on top with a 6-3, 6-4 win.  At the No. 6 spot, freshman Michael Chen (Johnson City, Tennessee) came away with a decisive 6-2, 6-3 win over Sklar.  Comerford delivered at the No. 1 position as he clinched the match for the Eagles when he defeated Wofford's Superstein 6-3, 6-4.  Soon after, Nagovnak finished off Wofford's Keith at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. 

The Eagles are now 1-2 on the season and will next host Tennessee Tech this coming Sunday at 1 p.m.
