Belov, Quiroz Named To Big South Men's Tennis All-Decade Team

ROCK HILL, S.C. – On Tuesday afternoon former Winthrop men's tennis standouts, Sergey Belov and Diego Quiroz, were named to the Big South Conference Men's Tennis All-Decade Team presented by Hercules Tires.

Belov was named to the All-Decade Team for his doubles performance during his career as an Eagle. Belov posted a 29-28 overall doubles record in three seasons of competition and 62 total career wins. In 2011, Belov had a stellar senior season where he recorded a 16-3 mark in singles play and 11-9 in doubles, to earn Big South Player of the Year honors, the seventh men's tennis player to do so. He was named all-conference twice for singles and doubles and was the 2011 No. 1 flight champion.

Belov is a two-time Big South champion. In 2010, the Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia native helped his team to a win over No. 1 Radford in the Big South championship match. Winthrop went on to play Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA tournament. In 2015, he was named head coach of the men's program and led the team to a 15-9 overall record and a seventh Big South Championship title where the Eagles took on Georgia in the NCAA Regionals.

Quiroz was named to the All-Decade Team for his singles performance over his four-year career as an Eagle. Quiroz posted a 45-31 overall record in singles play. During his senior year, the Guayaquil, Ecuador native posted a career-best 14-6 singles record, including a 10-match win streak, the longest of his collegiate career. Quiroz is 1-of-13 players in Big South Men's Tennis history to earn All-Conference honors four times. He was also named Player of the Week once and Freshman of the Week twice. Quiroz saw success in doubles play also, posting a 41-26 overall career record and in 2018, was ranked No. 88 by the ITA with his partner, Ruy Teixeira. He totaled 90 career wins on the court.

Quiroz is a four-time ITA Scholar Athlete and was named to the Big South All-Academic team twice. He currently serves as the graduate assistant for the Winthrop women's tennis team.

Belov and Quiroz join Zach Bogue (1985-89), Roberto Olivero (1985-89), Joao Leite (1990-99), Clayton Almeida (2000-09) and Rodrigo Santos (2000-09), who all previously earned Big South Men's Tennis All-Decade Team honors.

A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.  The 2010-19 Men's Tennis All-Decade Team is listed below in alphabetical order and features eight singles players, eight doubles players and one head coach.  In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.
