DAVIDSON, NC- The Winthrop Eagles fell to #60 Clemson 6-1 at the Davidson Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday morning. Sophomore Dylan Comerford (Johannesburg, South Africa) and freshman Corey Decandia (Adelaide, Australia) lost 8-0 at No. 1 doubles to Clemson's Yannick Maden and Dominique Maden. Clemson wrapped up the doubles point with a win at No. 3 doubles as the pair of Winthrop freshman Steven Patrick (Knoxville, Tennessee) and Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) fell 8-4 to Ayrton Wibowo and Austin Ansari.
Comerford battled against Yannick Maden at No. 1 singles but ended up falling 6-3, 6-3. At the No. 2 spot, sophomore
Peter Nagovnak (Kraubath, Austria) lost 6-4, 6-2 to Hunter Harrington. Freshman
Michael Chen (Johnson City, Tennessee) competed at the No. 5 position and took Clemson's Ansari to a first set tiebreak; in the end it wasn't enough as he lost 7-6 (2), 6-4. The highlight of the day for the Eagles was at No. 6 singles as freshman Boada overcame Clemson's Martin Blaho with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
The Eagles will travel to face off against Wofford this coming Friday at 2 p.m. and finish up the weekend at home against Tennessee Tech at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
