ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop baseball team will hit the road for eighth consecutive contest as it travels to Charleston, SC to face the College of Charleston Cougars at The Ballpark at Patriots Point. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Eagles enter the contest with an 11-22 overall record after taking two out of three on the road at VMI this past weekend, while the Cougars are 22-11 on the season falling in two out of three at Appalachian State.
College of Charleston leads the all-time series 8-4 and 3-2 when playing in Charleston. The Cougars defeated Winthrop 6-3 on Mar. 7 in Rock Hill.
The Eagles are led offensively by
Max Vogel with a .283 average, while
Patrick Gamblin has hit a team-high four home runs on the season and
Matt Lobacz has driven in a team-leading 25 RBI.
Tyler Klitsch has a team-low 2.44 ERA on the season, and
Matt Pierpont and
Eric Ruth each have three wins on the season. Pierpont has also tossed a team-high 58.0 innings in eight starts with two complete games.
College of Charleston's offense is led by Marty Gantt with a .372 average, 27 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 82 total bases. Brandon Murray has also hit a team-leading nine home runs on the season. Christian Powell tops the Cougars pitching staff with a 6-1 record and 1.89 ERA, and Josh Renfro has collected one complete game in a team-best 48.0 innings pitched.
