ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop baseball team will host the Holy Cross Crusaders for the first time in school history this weekend at The Winthrop Ballpark in a three-game non-conference series.
Game times for this weekend's series are 6 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.
The Eagles enter the weekend series with a 1-12 overall record, while the Crusaders post a 3-5 record on the season. Holy Cross plays in the Patriot League.
Winthrop's offense is currently hitting .175 on the season, and the Crusaders have a team average of .247. The Eagles have a team ERA this season of 7.39, while Holy Cross' team ERA is 5.63.
The Winthrop offense is led by
Patrick Gamblin with a .250 average at the plate with one home run.
Matt Lobacz leads the team with 10 RBI, and
Justin Hopper's one homer is also tied for the team-lead with Gamblin.
Matt Pierpont has the lone win on the mound this season, and
Tyler Klitsch posts a team-low 2.81 ERA in 16.0 innings pitched.
Michael Gilroy's .208 opponent batting average is tops on the team.
The Crusaders are led offensively by Chris Sintetos with a .500 average, one home run and seven RBI. Jordan Enos has the other home run on the Holy Cross roster this season and has a team-best 14 total bases.
Chris Kono, Matt Croglio and Mike Ahmed have all three wins on the mound in 2012 for the Crusaders. Kono has a team-best 1.50 ERA in 6.0 innings pitched and one start, Croglio has compiled a 2.45 ERA in two starts and 11.0 innings of work. Both Kono and Croglio lead the team in both ERA and innings pitched. Kono also boasts a .111 opposing batting average.
Holy Cross is led by head coach Greg DiCenzo, who is in his fifth season with the program.
