CLINTON, SC –
Steven Richardson pitched his first complete game of the season on Sunday afternoon as the Presbyterian College Blue Hose defeated the Winthrop Eagles 6-3 in the finale of a three-game series at the PC Baseball Complex.

The Eagles fall to 23-26 on the season and 11-10 in conference play, while the Blue Hose improve to 20-28 overall and 5-16 in the conference.

Richardson (5-4) allowed three runs against Winthrop on six hits, two walks and one strikeout. Matteo D'Angelo (4-6) took the loss giving up five runs on 11 hits, one walk and three strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. The outing by D'Angelo was a season-long for him.

“We didn't swing the bat extremely well today,” said head coach Tom Riginos. “We just gave away some at-bats and need to do a better job with that. The name of the game is hits and runs, and we got neither of them today.”

Presbyterian College took a 1-0 lead over the Eagles in the bottom of the second on an RBI single to right field by Kenny Bryant scoring Tony Micklon from third base. Micklon started the inning for the Blue Hose with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a ground out by Nate Horton.

Winthrop tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning on Eddie Rohan's RBI sacrifice fly to left field. The Eagles began the inning with back-to-back singles by Tyler Cook and TJ Olesczuk, with Cook coming home on the sacrifice fly by Rohan.

Brad Zebedis gave the Blue Hose a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on his RBI single to left field and scored Andrew Williams. D'Angelo began the fifth getting Tyler Hill to ground out and John Wagner to fly out, but then allowed two straight singles to Williams and Mack Hite.

Presbyterian College took the lead for good at 6-1 with four runs in its half of the eighth inning. Bryant drove in two of the runs with his double to right center field, while Hill and Gabe Grammer also posted an RBI each in the inning.

The Eagles trimmed their deficit to three runs at 6-3 in the top of the ninth inning on Chas Crane's two-run homer to left field. It was his second home run of the season. Matt Lobacz started the inning for Winthrop getting hit by a pitch and then scored on the long ball by Crane.

Adam Gliebe led the Eagles offensively with two hits, and Crane had a team-high two RBI. Hite recorded a 3-for-4 performance for the Blue Hose, and Bryant drove in three runs.

Winthrop will be back in action on Friday, May 13 as it will host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the first game of a three-game series at The Winthrop Ballpark. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
