Biography

2010:  Hit a team-high .361 during his first season with the program, starting in 50 games at second base. Played in a total of 51 contests for Winthrop. Posted a team-best 74 hits (74-for-205) with one homer and 37 RBI, as well as 16 doubles (second on the team), 43 runs scored and tied for first on the squad with seven assists in a game which came against Liberty on May 26. He had a team-leading .436 on-base percentage and was second on the team in fielding with 101 assists. Had a team-high 15-game hitting streak from Mar. 16 against Harvard to Apr. 9 at Charleston Southern. Was second on the team with 20 multiple-hit games and third with nine multiple-RBI contests. Hit his only home run of the season in a 16-10 loss to Kent State on Mar. 20. Had two RBI in his first contest as an Eagle on Feb. 19 in an 8-4 win against Northwestern. Recorded a personal-best four hits at Charlotte on Apr. 14 and at VMI on May 15; also had a three-RBI contest in second game of doubleheader in conference opener against High Point on Mar. 27. Hit game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth-inning in a 5-4 win over Toledo on Mar. 12; it was the second walk-off hit of the season for Winthrop.

Santa Fe C.C.:  Was the leadoff hitter for the Saints, who finished runner-up in the Division I JUCO World Series. Was named to the World Series All-Tournament Team, hitting .346 with a double, home run and six RBI. Hit .324 during his career at Santa Fe with 23 doubles, six triples, two home runs and 56 RBI. Holds the career record for most runs scored with 113, and is second in walks with 74. Had an on-base percentage of .466 with 40 walks and only 13 strikeouts during his final season as a Saint. Voted team captain during his freshman season. Named 2009 Male Athletic Student-Leader of the Year at Santa Fe.

High School:  Was named FHSAA First Team All-Area in 2006 and 2007. Received the Des Hamilton For Love of the Game Award and was selected as a Scholar-Athlete from 2003-07.


Personal:  The son of Tommy and Margo Cook, Tyler is a Sport Management major who enjoys hunting, fishing, going to the beach and hanging out with friends and family, and plans on either attending graduate school or finding a good job to support his future family after graduation. His favorite foods are fried deer meat and boiled peanuts, and Woods and Water is his favorite book. Ozzie Smith is his favorite athlete.
