ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Winthrop University Director of Baseball Operations Eddie Hill has been selected for induction into the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, as announced on Thursday.
"I'm really happy for Eddie. He is very deserving of this honor and recognition," said head coach Mike McGuire. "Eddie is a great baseball man but even better person. He has positively touched a lot of people in the baseball world with his extensive background."
Hill has spent more than five decades coaching and developing players across South Carolina, and the honor recognizes a career that began long before he arrived in Rock Hill.
Before he ever coached a game, Hill was a player at the University of South Carolina from 1970 to 1973, where he played under Baseball Hall of Famer Bobby Richardson. After graduating from USC, he went straight into starting his coaching career.
His high school coaching career took him across the state, with stops at Lower Richland High School from 1973 to 1978, Conway High School from 1978 to 1983, Rock Hill High School from 1983 to 2009, York Comprehensive High School from 2009 to 2012, and Northwestern High School from 2012 to 2017. By the time his high school career was finished, Hill had won more than 500 baseball games.
Beyond the high school level, Hill has coached American Legion Baseball and travel ball, and has worked camps at Clemson, South Carolina, Winthrop, UNC Wilmington, Coastal Carolina and College of Charleston, along with local youth camps throughout Rock Hill, York, Fort Mill and Chester.
Hill has also been deeply involved in the growth of baseball in South Carolina off the field. He was a charter member of the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association and has served on its board of directors, where he has helped organize the SCBCA Winter Baseball Clinic for many years. He has also been a long-time member of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association.
Hill joined the Winthrop Baseball program in 2017 and has served as Director of Baseball Operations since.
