McGuire Announces Stambaugh as Pitching Coach

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Winthrop head baseball coach Mike McGuire announced the hiring of Dalton Stambaugh as the program's new pitching coach.

Stambaugh comes to the Eagles after spending the 2026 season on the coaching staff of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (High A) in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

"I am excited to announce the hiring of Dalton Stambaugh as our pitching coach," said McGuire. "Dalton brings a wealth of knowledge from his experiences as both a player and a coach at the college and professional levels and is going to be an excellent mentor to our pitching staff. The Brewers are well known and respected for Pitching Development in their organization and I'm excited about what Dalton is bringing to our pitching staff in the Development area."

Upon the end of his professional career Stambaugh spent 2025 as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater of Morehead State University. His 2025 recruiting class led the program to a 17-win improvement from one year to the next.

Stambaugh enjoyed a decorated career at Morehead State, where he played for McGuire from 2016-19 and he helped lead the program to an OVC Championship as well as an NCAA Tournament appearance at the Clemson NCAA Regional in 2018. In the 2018 OVC Tournament, Stambaugh earned two wins and a save in helping secure the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. In 2019 he was a 1st Team All-OVC Pitcher and helped the team win a program record 40 games. That year he was also a 30th round draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles. Stambaugh played professionally for both the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs organizations from 2019-2024 reaching AA in 2022 and 2023.

"I had the privilege of coaching Dalton and he was incredibly dedicated to his craft and was a great competitor," added McGuire. "Two traits that I know he will bring to our program."

He earned a bachelor's of arts degree for sport management in 2018 and completed his MBA in 2021, both at Morehead State.

McGuire added "We are excited to have Dalton and his wife Katie joining the Winthrop Baseball family."
