Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off a weekend that saw Winthrop post 18 Top 8 finishes in their final regular-season meet of the 2024-25 indoor track and field season at the USC Invite, the Eagles conclude their indoor campaign by returning to Columbia, S.C. for the second straight week for the Big South Indoor Championships.

- Winthrop concluded the indoor regular-season in style at the USC Invite with 18 Top Eight finishes
- In the women's shot put junior Johntavia Shaw and freshman Madison Washington placed second and fourth, respectively
- Shaw had a mark of 13.75m while Washington leaped 10.97m
- Sophomore Maddie Spenner placed eighth in the women's weight throw with a toss of 12.96m
- In the men's high jump, sophomore Shadrach Nvodjo was seventh with a leap of 1.85m
- In the men's long jump, graduate student Kenneth Williams Jr. was runner-up with a mark of 7.19m
- In the men's triple jump, junior Maurion Jamison was third with a mark of 14.25m
- Freshman Jaylen Bostic was close behind, placing sixth with a mark of 13.71m
- In the men's shot put, junior Timothy Speaks was third with a mark of 13.94m
- Speaks also finished fifth in the men's weight throw with a hurl of 16.06m
- Freshman Logan Ruehl was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 13.63m
- Sophomore Jade Reese placed eighth in the women's 200m dash with a time of 26.23
- Freshman Anna Conrad competed as an unattached and was eighth in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:22.59
- In the 4x400 meter relay, Winthrop placed fifth with a time of 4:11.39
- The team consisted of freshman Maya Flynn, junior Michaela Hayes, junior Alexandra Cameron and Reese
- The women's distance medley was runner-up with a time of 13:11.26
- The team consisted of sophomore Kayah Marques, junior Sarah Davis, graduate student Morgan Ruff and sophomore Alexis Taylor
- In the men's 200m dash, senior Kevin Brown was fifth with a time of 21.82
- Sophomore Caleb Selph placed sixth in the men's 3000m run with a time of 9:58.30
- Senior Ian Gresham and freshman Wathen Montgomery were fifth and sixth in the men's 60m hurdles with marks of 8.36 and 8.62, respectively
- In the men's 4x400 meter relay, two Winthrop teams had top five finishes
- The team consisting of freshman Kendale Cooke, junior Jurnii Lucas, Brown and sophomore Shane King finished runner-up with a time of 3:13.91
- The second team consisting of Montgomery, sophomore Justin Powell, junior Reggie Grant, and freshman Jack Myatt (competing as an unattached) were fifth with a time of 3:43.14
LAST YEAR AT THE CONFERENCE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Winthrop competed at the Big South Indoor Championships last season in 2024 from Feb. 23-24 at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
- The men scored the most points since 2003 and finished third, which was also their highest finish since 2003
- The men and women combined for a total of 11 All-Conference honors at the championship
- Monay James and Lucas were named to the 2024 Big South Indoor Track And Field All-Academic Team
SEASON AWARDS
- 4x400 relay team Kendale Cooke, Jurnii Lucas, Kevin Brown, Shane King- Big South Men's Track Athletes of the Week-Feb. 21-23
- Cooke, Lucas, Brown and King finished runner-up at the USC Invite with a time of 3:13.91, which ranks second in the league this season
- DeAngelo Brooks-Big South Men's Track Freshman of the Week-Feb. 21-23
- Brooks set a PR in the 60m dash at the USC Invite with a time of 6.97 to finish 10th overall, marking his highest standing in any event this season
