Rock Hill, S.C. – The Big South Conference annual awards were announced as Winthrop garnered five honors.
Ricardo Ferreira was named First Team All-Big South,
Nick Guido and
Diego Candia were named Second Team while
Rodrigo Ferreira was voted Honorable Mention. The four all-conference honorees are the most since the 2014 squad had four Eagles receive all-conference recognition.
Ricardo Ferreira led the Eagles in goals (6), points (12) and points per game (0.71). His six goals were tied for second in the Big South and his 12 points were tied for 7
th. Ferreira tied for the most game-winning goals in the conference with three.
Guido started 15-of-16 matches for the Eagles and was second on the team in scoring with eight points, tied for second with two goals. Guido's second goal of the season came on Oct. 14 at Presbyterian College as he found the back of the net in the 85
th minute to lead the Eagles to a 2-1 victory. His four assists paced the Eagles and two of which set up game-winning goals.
Candia anchored the Winthrop back line as he started all 14 games he played. Despite missing two games he logged the third most minutes on the squad. He is the first Winthrop defender named all-conference since Jordi Lluch in 2015.
Rodrigo Ferreira started all 13 games in the midfield in which he played and was tied for fourth on the team in scoring with five points (1g, 3a). First assist of the season came late in the contest on the insurance goal in 2-0 win at Coastal Carolina. In his first Big South contest he assisted on two goals to help the Eagles earn a 4-3 victory over Gardner-Webb.
Grayson Woodard was named to the Big South Conference All-Academic Team. Woodard started 12-of-16 games he played and finished with one goal and two assists on the year. His lone goal came in a 2-1 loss at Furman while he assisted on the game-winning goal at Gardner-Webb and the game-winning goal at Presbyterian College.
