James's Win In Women's Hepthatlon Highlights Day Two Of Big South Outdoor T&F Championships

High Point, N.C. – Monay James's win in the women's heptathlon highlighted day two for Winthrop on the second day of the 2024 Big South Outdoor Track And Field Championships.

Champions (Day 2)
  • Monay James became Winthrop's first ever women's heptathlon champion with a school record of 4966, garnering her an all-conference honor. The point total eclipses the old record Taryn Deleon 4877 set in 2017.
Runner-Up (Day 2)
  • N/A
3rd Place (Day 2)
  • Faith Wood took home third in the women's triple jump with another school record of 11.91m.
  • Joining James on the All-Big South team were triple jumpers Maurion Jamison (14.04m) and Faith Wood (11.91m)
  • Wood's jump broke her school record again.

  • "Another day of getting more athletes in to finals tomorrow," head coach Ben Paxton said. "It's about surviving and advancing today! What Monay did was unbelievable! She had personal bests in seven of the eight disciplines of the hep. She will go down as one of the WU greats."
