Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop Athletics set a department record for a cumulative grade point average of 3.37, which is 0.3 higher than the previous mark.
"I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes this semester," said Claire Kurtz, the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic and Student Services/SWA. "This semester threw a number of curve balls at them and they persevered to finish the semester strong. Excited to see what they do next semester!"

"We are fortunate to have assembled an exceptional support network dedicated to maximizing the potential of our student-athletes to achieve the highest semester GPA ever!"
Nearly 80 percent of the student-athletes achieved a 3.0 GPA or better (77%) and 79.5 of student-athletes have a 3.0 or better GPA. There were 48 student-athletes that earned a 4.0 GPA for the semester and currently have 18 students who cumulatively have a 4.0.
It was the women's cross country team that achieved the highest team GPA of 3.724 (men or women), edging out women's soccer which had a 3.720 GPA. The baseball team finished with the highest team GPA among the men's sports with a 3.34.
