Cross Country To Compete At Big South Championships Friday Morning

Rock Hill, S.C. – After a week off, Winthrop is set to compete in the Big South Conference Championships hosted by Charleston Southern University Friday morning.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Winthrop concluded the regular-season with a pair of runner-up team finishes at the 41st annual Winthrop/Adidas Invitational two weeks ago on Friday, Oct. 18 at Winthrop Farm
  • This was the lone regular-season home meet for the Eagles
  • On the women's side (6k), junior Olivia Kemp was the top individual runner for the Eagles, placing 10th overall with a time of 23:38
  • Freshman Brianna Dooney and sophomore Alexis Taylor finished second and third for the Garnet and Gold, placing 15th and 16th overall with times of 24:00 and 24:01, respectively
  • Freshman Ella Collins and sophomore Kayah Marques rounded out the Eagle women with times of 24:21 and 24:26
  • Collins and Marques finished 19th and 20th overall
  • All five Eagle athletes finished in the Top 20
  • The Eagle women finished second out of six teams with 61 points
  • On the men's side, five Eagles finished in the Top 15
  • Freshman Connor Magill, junior Griffin McNeish and sophomore Ivan Diaz were the top three individual runners for Winthrop
  • They finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively
  • Senior Nolan Weisdorfer placed fourth for the Eagles, finishing 12th overall with a time of 28:55
  • Sophomore Caleb Selph rounded out the men's squad with a 14th place finish and a time of 29:12
  • The Winthrop men finished second out of six teams with 49 points
SEASON HONORS
Daren Hinds-Big South Conference Men's CC Runner of the Week-Oct. 10-13
  • Hinds cruised to a 45-second victory over the 8k course with a time of 24:57 at the Sand Shark Invitational in Hardeeville, S.C. on Saturday, Oct. 13, leading the men's squad to a runner-up finish in the 14-team field
  • This was Hinds' second first place finish in his career
  • He won the 8k with a time of 25:33.6 at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational back on Sep. 30, 2023
Connor Magill-Big South Conference Men's CC Freshman of the Week-Oct. 10-13
  • Magill finished 25th in the 8k field of the Sand Shark Cross Country Invitational
  • He was the sixth Eagle to finish on the day, and the team's fastest underclassman with a time of 27:14
Anna Conrad-Big South Conference Women's CC Freshman of the Week-Oct. 10-13
  • Conrad led the Eagles to the team title of the 15-team Sand Shark Invitational last Saturday in Hardeeville, S.C. with her team-best fifth-place finish
  • She completed the 5k course with a time of 18:52

  • The 2024 Big South Conference Cross Country Championship will be hosted by Charleston Southern University on Friday, Nov. 1 on the CSU campus
  • All nine Big South members will compete in the Women's 5k and the Men's 8K race
  • The top 14 individual finishers will receive All-Conference medals -- the top seven will be recognized as First-Team honorees, with the remaining seven earning Second-Team distinction
  • Admission is free, though spectators are NOT allowed to enter the start/finish areas and must avoid going into team camp spaces
GLANCE AT THE EAGLES Jason Krell:
  • Krell is a graduate transfer from the University of Louisville
  • He finished second for the Eagles in both races so far this year and finished 4th at the Sand Shark Invitational on October 1
Ivan Diaz:
  • Diaz finished 9th at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational on October 18 and finished in the Top 5 for the Eagles in two meets
  • Diaz ran a season's best 8k time at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational
Chadwick Sisson:
  • Sisson is a sophomore from Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • He set a personal best in the 8k at the ECU Pirate Invitational on October 4
  • He ran a season's best in the 6k at the Covered Bridge Open on August 30
Caleb Selph:
  • Selph is a sophomore from West Springfield, Va.
  • Competed in all four events for the Eagles in the regular-season
  • Rounded out the men's squad with a 14th place overall finish and a time of 29:12 at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational on October 18
Logan Rangnow:
  • Rangnow is a junior from Rock Hill, S.C.
  • Competed in three of four events for the Eagles in the regular-season
  • Placed 15th overall with a time of 29:27 at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational on October 18
Jack Myatt:
  • Myatt is a freshman from Fort Mill, S.C.
  • Will be making his season debut at the Big South Championships
Dimitry Kunista:
  • Kunista is a freshman from Ladson, S.C.
  • Will be making his season debut at the Big South Championships

  Anna Conrad:
  • Conrad is a freshman from Millersport, Ohio
  • She finished 5th at the Sand Shark Invitational on October 12
  • She set personal bests in the 5k and 6k at the Sand Shark Invitational and ECU Pirate Invitational
  • She was named the Big South Freshman of the Week on October 16
Ella Collins:
  • Collins is a freshman from Cork, Ireland
  • She finished 6th at the Sand Shark Invitational on October 12
  • Achieved a personal best in the 6k at the ECU Pirate Invitational on October 4
Olivia Kemp:
  • Kemp is a junior from St. Augustine, Fla.
  • She finished 7th at the Sand Shark Invitational on October 12 and finished 10th at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational on October 18
  • Achieved a personal best in the 6k with a time of 23:38 at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational
Kayah Marques:
  • Marques is a sophomore from North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • Had the fourth best placement for the Eagles with a time of 24:05 at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational on October 4
  • Had a Top 10 placement at the Sand Shark Invitational on October 12
Brianna Dooney:
  • Dooney is a freshman from Summerville, S.C.
  • Finished 10th overall at the Sand Shark Invitational on October 12 with a time of 19:08
  • Was the second best runner for the Eagles at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational on October 18
Alexis Taylor:
  • Taylor is a sophomore from Aiken, S.C.
  • Placed fifth for the Eagles with a time of 24:27 at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational on October 4
  • Placed third for the Eagles with a time of 24:01 at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational on October 18
Morgan Ruff:
  • Ruff is a senior from Bremen, Ohio
  • Competed in all four events for the Eagles in the regular-season
  • Had a personal best time of 19:24 at the Sand Shark Invitational on October 12
Amira Raso:
  • Is a sophomore from Pageland, S.C.
  • Competed in three of four events for the Eagles in the regular-season
  • Had personal best times at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational on October 4 and the Sand Shark Invitational on October 12
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
  • The men's program has seen 19 All-Conference performers and 24 All-Academic performers, with the most recent honorees being Theo Kahler in 2019 and Nolan Weisdorfer last season, respectively.
  • The most recent best finish was finishing fifth in 2016
  • The Eagles won the conference title in 2000 and 2001
  • On the women's side, the Eagles have seen 24 All-Conference performers and 28 All-Academic performers, with the most recent honorees being Kemp last season
  • The most recent best finish was finishing fifth in 2020-21
  • The Eagles have never claimed a conference title but finished runner-up in 1986 and 1987
  • The women's squad has a shot at a Top 3 finish
