Rock Hill, S.C. – Redshirt junior setter Isabella Murray (VB) and senior Jeff Nelson (MGOLF) have been named the Comporium Student-Athletes of the Month.
 
Murray played in all nine matches for the Eagles in September. In that month, Murray registered 24 kills, 61 total attempts, 267 assists, 11 aces, 73 digs, a block solo and six block assists. Against Western Carolina on the first day of the Bash In The 'Boro Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. on Friday, Sep. 21, Murray moved to eighth in school history in assists with 2,244, passing Jesse Vicic's 2,200 assists compiled from the 2013 and '14 seasons. Murray currently has 2,259 career assists.
 
During the VCU Invitational from Sep. 6-7 in Richmond, Va., Murray passed 100 career blocks and 500 digs, becoming the fifth setter in Winthrop history to have 2,000 assists, 100 blocks and 500 digs in her career. With this, she was named to the VCU Invitational All-Tournament Team and was named the Big South Setter of the Week on Sep. 9. Murray is Winthrop's first ever Big South Setter of the Week recipient (the award was instituted by the Conference starting this season).
 
On the final day of the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C. on Tuesday, Sep. 10, Nelson posted the team's lowest round on consecutive days with a 1-over 73, finishing T34 after moving up 10 spots. Then on the final day of the Badger Fall Invitational in Madison, Wisc. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, Nelson led the Eagles with a final round 71 (-1) and had the top finish at T10, wrapping up the event with 13 birdies. This is the first top 10 finish for Nelson as an Eagle.
