Rock Hill, S.C. – Johntavia Shaw and
Kelton Talford have been named the Comporium Student-Athletes of the Month.
Talford played and started in all eight games the Eagles played in the month of December, averaging 18.0 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game, shooting nearly 70% from the field.
Shaw broke a school record that stood for 20 years and had a 1
st place finish in Winthrop's two indoor track and field meets this month.
At the Carolina Challenge from Jan. 19-20, Shaw won the shot put with a mark of 14.17m. This was a new PR and a new school record, breaking a 21-year old record of 13.87m set by Sara Lewis in 2003.
Then the next weekend at the VMI Invitational, Shaw won the women's shot put with a mark of 13.38m. This was her second win in a week and one of three victories claimed by the Eagles that day.
