Lexington, Va. – Winthrop claimed three victories in their third meet of the 2023-24 indoor track and field season at the VMI Invitational Friday-Saturday.

In The Field
- Senior Kenneth Williams Jr. claimed the men's long jump title with a Big South leading leap of 7.29m.
- Senior Ambar Nunez-Gomez followed up with a win in the women's weight throw with a hurl of 17.00m.
- The third win was sophomore Johntavia Shaw winning the women's shot put with a mark of 13.38m. This was her second win in a week.
- Sophomore Timothy Speaks placed 3rd in the men's weight throw with a season-best 16.39m.

Coach Paxton Post-Meet Comments
"Great weekend for this early in the season," Paxton said. "We are a young team and to watch the sprinters and jumpers move up bodes well for us in Big South. Huge leap for (June) Williams. He is in a great position to challenge for a conference title."

The Eagles return to Virginia next week, traveling to Lynchburg for the second and final time this season to compete in the Liberty Open hosted by Liberty University on Sat., Feb. 3.
