Columbia, S.C. – Johntavia Shaw's new school record in the shot put highlighted a very successful weekend for the Eagles at the Carolina Challenge.

In The Field
- On the women's side, Faith Wood placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.27m.
- Johntavia Shaw won the shot put with a mark of 14.17m.
- This is a new PR and a new school record, breaking a 21-year old record of 13.87m set by Sara Lewis in 2003.
- On the men's side, Kenneth Williams, Jr. finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.72m while Maurion Jamison finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 14.13m.
- Jamison's was a new PR.
- Williams also won the high jump with a leap of 1.97m.
- In the shot put, Timothy Speaks finished third with a mark of 13.28m. He also finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 16.08m, setting a new PR.
On The Track
- On the women's side, Alexis Taylor made her Winthrop track and field debut, placing fifth in the mile with a time of 5:34.67.
- On the men's side, Ian Gresham finished sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 50.07 while Mitchell Hill placed fifth in the 800m dash with a time of 2:00.62.
- Gresham's was a new PR.
- Darren Frasier finished ninth in the 1000m dash with a time of 2:40.33.
- This was the first time in his indoor career that he ran in the 1000m dash.
- Jurnii Lucas finished ninth in the 300m dash.
Up Next
The Eagles are back in action next weekend at the VMI Invitational hosted by the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington from Jan. 26-27.
