Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop junior forward
Ricardo Ferreira was named the Big South Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Ferreira and Gardner-Webb's Santiago Hoyos shared the league's top offensive honor of the week. In the only game of the week for the Eagles, Ferreira scored two goals in the final nine minutes to help lead Winthrop to a season-opening 2-0 victory at Coastal Carolina on Aug. 24. He scored the first goal in the 82
nd minute when he received a pass and after a couple of dribbles curled a shot over the head of the keeper as the ball hit off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. He then added an insurance goal in the 86
th minute off a free kick as he took the service near the penalty spot and slotted a shot in the lower left corner for the goal.
Ferreira is the first Eagle to capture the honor since
Bryant Jimenez-Pearce on Nov. 1, 2021.
