Rock Hill, S.C. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released the 2022 NABC Division I All-District Teams and honors Tuesday afternoon and Winthrop's
D.J. Burns Jr. was among those honored.
Burns Jr. was voted to the NABC All-District 3 First Team, adding to his list of awards from the 2021-22 season. The Rock Hill, S.C. native took home Big South Conference Player of the Year honors as well as being named to the All-Big South First Team. It was the third straight season Burns Jr. earned Big South all-conference honors. He became the fifth Eagle in program history to be named all-conference at least three times.
The junior forward led the Eagles in scoring with a career-high average of 15.0 ppg. He also set career-highs in field goal percentage and rebounds per game. His shooting percentage of .626 led the Big South in field goal percentage and as of Mar. 15 ranks 9
th in in the nation. He reached 1,000 career points this season, finishing the year with 1,128 which ranks 19
th on Winthrop's all-time scoring list. He was the 5
th player in program history to reach 1,000 points before their senior season. He had eight games on the year where he scored 20 or more points, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener.
Burns Jr. is the 5
th different Eagles to be named to the NABC All-District Team, joining Keon Moore, Keon Johnson, Xavier Cooks and
Chandler Vaudrin on that list.
