Eagles Set Program Record In 2nd Round, T4 Heading Into Friday's Final Round

Winthrop Sets Program Record For Team Score In 2nd Round Of Conference Championship

Ninety Six, S.C.— Winthrop remains tied for 4th after 36 holes of the 2021 Big South Conference Women's Golf Championship. After 18 holes the Eagles were tied with High Point, but they head into Friday's final round tied with Gardner-Webb and two strokes back from High Point in third place.

  • Winthrop posted a 294 in the second round as three golfers were a combined 2-over
  • The 294 is the lowest team score the program has ever posted in the second round of the Big South Championship
  • The previous mark was 295 set by the 2010 team and the team score of 294 is the second-lowest in any round by Winthrop in the conference championship (289 is the record set in 2017's final round)
  • Alexis Brindley set a collegiate-best 36 hole total as she posted a 1-over 73 after shooting even par in the first round and she's tied for 5th
  • Valentine Savioz shot a team-low in the second round at even par and is now +2 in the championship and T7
  • For the second straight day, Sarah Funderburg birdied 16 and 18 as she posted a 1-over 73 and is T25
  • Winthrop and Gardner-Webb head into the final round with an 11 shot lead over 6th place (Longwood) and 20 stroke lead over 7th place (Charleston Southern)
  • As a team the Eagles moved up to 3rd in Par 4 scoring (+27)
  • Makenna Brindley leads the team in Par 3 scoring (-1), Alexis Brindley remained 1-under in Par 4 scoring to lead the Eagles (Tied for 2nd best among the field) and Sarah Funderburg leads the team in Par 5 scoring (-3)
  • Gardner-Webb posted four birdies on 18 to move up into a tie with the Eagles in 4th
  • This is the first time since the second round of the 2018 Starmount Fall Classic that a Winthrop team shot 294 or better in a round
