Rock Hill, S.C. – The Big South Conference announced its annual women's golf awards Thursday morning as Winthrop garnered three honors.
Junior
Constanca Mendonca earned all-conference honors for the second straight season as she was named to the second team. Posted a collegiate-best stroke average of 75.04, which is 1.79 improvement from her previous best. She tied her single-season best of three Top 10 finishes. In the season-opening event at the Golfweek Fall Challenge, Mendonca matched a collegiate-low 54-hole total of 1-under. Mendonca became the 16
th women's golfer in program history to earn all-conference honors multiple times.
Alayna Friedt earned All-Freshman Team honors after a solid campaign in her first collegiate season. Friedt had a 77.73 stroke average and participated in all 10 events on the year, with her best finish coming at the Low Country Intercollegiate at T20. Posted her collegiate-low round in the Golfweek Fall Challenge with a final round 70 (-2). She finished second on the team in three events and led the team at the Low Country Intercollegiate. On Mar. 12 she earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors.
Mendonca was also named to the Big South All-Academic Team. The junior has a 3.795 GPA while working toward a degree in business administration with a focus in management and a minor in marketing. She is also a two-time WGCA All-America Scholar selection.
