Five Players Named To Inaugural Big South Lacrosse All-Decade Team

ROCK HILL, SC – Five former lacrosse standouts, Jenna Kasmarik, Shannon Gallagher, Katherine Judge, Alaina Girani and Nicole Beatson were named to the Big South Conference Women's Lacrosse All-Decade Team, announced by the league office Thursday.

Kasmarik totaled 145 goals, 12 assists, 100 draw controls, 26 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls in 39 games in her two seasons as an Eagle. Kasmarik, a transfer from Johns Hopkins, was named the 2015 Offensive Player of the Year, a two-time All-Conference player, five-time Player of the Week and Big South Champion. Kasmarik recorded a five-goal performance in the conference championship game against Liberty, leading the Eagles to a 13-8 five-goal win over the Flames. The Suwanee, G.A. native led the conference in goals scored in 2014 (67) and 2015 (78), while leading the NCAA in goals per game for the 2015 season with 3.90. Her 3.82 career goals per game average is best in Winthrop and Big South history. Kasmarik was named to the Mid-Major Lacrosse Mid-Major All-American Second Team for her senior year.

Gallagher is 1-of-4 Winthrop lacrosse players to earned All-Conference honors all four seasons and is a two-time Big South champion. Gallagher was named the 2015 tournament MVP and recorded an eight-goal performance in Winthrop's quarterfinal game against Presbyterian. The Silver Springs, M.D. native played and started in 79 games throughout her career amassing 212 goals and 291 points, a Winthrop and Big South best. She is the program leader in game winning goals (10), caused turnovers (165) and shots (411), second best in the Big South. Gallagher was named Freshman of the Year in 2013, racked up five Player of the Week honors and was named a Mid-Major Lacrosse Mid-Major All-America for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Judge, a two-time Big South champion and four-time All-Conference player, appeared in 81 games as an Eagle, the most ever. Judge totaled 247 ground balls and 421 draw controls in four seasons, a program and conference best. The Lewes, DE native earned All-Tournament team honors in 2017 and 2018 and was named to the North-South All-Star Game roster in 2018. As a senior, Judge recorded 13 draw controls, a Big South championship record, in Winthrop's semifinal win over Liberty. In 2017, Judge was named to the Big South All-Academic team and IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. She earned Co-Big South Women of the Year honors for 2017-18.

Beatson, a transfer from Monroe Community College, spent two seasons in an Eagles uniform and made an immediate impact. Beatson earned All-Conference honors twice, Player of the Week honors five times and named Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. The Skaneateles, N.Y. native broke four single-season records: most points (110), most goals (90), most shots (173) and most free-position goals (25). She holds the Big South record for points per game (5.10) and free position goals per game (1.21). Her 90 goals in 2018 was enough for second most in the NCAA. She was named to the North-South All-Star Game roster alongside Judge in 2018. 

Girani, one of the best goalies in conference history, earned All-Conference honors four times, 1-of-9 players to earn that honor. Girani is a two-time Big South champion and holds the program and conference record in saves (497), most wins (59), minutes played (4,746:10) and saves percentage (.485). The Wirtz, V.A. native was named Freshman of the Year in 2015, Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, Player of the Week 10 times and All-Tournament three-times. In 2016 she earned Mid-Major Lacrosse Mid-Major All-America honors, named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in 2017 and the North-South All-Star Game Roster in 2019.

Kasmarik and Girani remain in the Big South as the Longwood women's lacrosse assistant coach and Radford women's lacrosse graduate assistant respectively. Beatson was drafted by the Baltimore Ride of the UWLX and now serves as an assistant coach of Butler's women's lacrosse program.

Women's lacrosse joined the Big South in 2013, making this the first All-Decade Team to be named.

A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.  Women's Lacrosse became a Conference sport in 2013, and the All-Decade Team is listed below in alphabetical order by position and features four attackers, four midfielders, four defenders, one goalkeeper and one head coach.  In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.
