ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University lacrosse team prepares for its final home contest against Furman on Saturday on Eagle Field.
DRAW CONTROL
- This will be the 8th meeting between Winthrop and Furman with the Paladins holding a 6-1 all-time margin.
- Winthrop holds a 1-2 all-time record at home against Furman.
- The Eagles haven't beaten the Paladins since 2016, doing so in the first ever matchup between the two.
- Fuman in 6-0 in the last six matchups, with the last three not allowing the Eagles to score in the double digits.
- The Eagles currently rank fourteenth in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game, at 11.21.
- They also rank 25th in ground balls per game, at 17.00.
- Winthrop is 76th in the nation in shots per game, and also 62nd in shots on goals per game.
- The Eagles also rank 36th in saves percentage, 0.444.
- Mikaylah Lindsay ranks in top-26 nationally in three categories, 0.460 in save percentage, 121 saves, and 8.64 saves per game.
- Winthrop battled against Wofford, but dropped the contest in overtime after scoring seven straight to comeback and take the lead.
- The Eagles dropped their senior day to Gardner-Webb, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs their first win on the season.
- Winthrop bounced back against Radford on the road for their first Big South win of the season, scoring the final seven goals in the contest.
- The Eagles lost two Big South contests in a row, falling to Longwood in Farmville, having still not beaten the Lancers in Farmville since 2017.
- Winthrop dropped their Big South opener against High Point, giving the Panthers their first win on the 2026 season.
- The Eagles played a thriller against Iona in their first matchup also, winning 7-6 thanks to a Warren hattrick and 15 saves from Mikaylah Lindsay.
- Lindsay's 15 saves against Iona tied for the ninth most single-game saves in program history.
- Winthrop dismantled Austin Peay in their first ever matchup on Saturday, with eight Eagles finding the back of the net.
- The Eagles traveled to Charlotte on Wednesday, falling to the 49ers.
- Winthrop fell to Davidson in their lone game last week, although scoring the most goals against the Wildcats in the program's history
- Tori Iannotti captured Big South Player of the Week honors, after going on an offensive tear over the past week, the senior netted ten goals on thirteen shots on goal for an efficiency of .867 percent, Iannotti opened the week with four goals against Campbell in a back-and-forth thriller that slipped away in the final few possessions. She followed that up with a six goal performance on just six shots, sitting one goal shy of tying her career-high. Iannotti was the driving force to help the Eagles get their first win over Queens in program history, in a dramatic double overtime contest.
- Gabby Pierpont was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week, as her presence was felt on the field all week. The senior midfielder kicked off the week with two goals against Campbell with one draw control and one caused turnover. She then shifted to more defensive statistics, putting up a career-high four caused turnovers and tying her career-high with four ground balls in the double overtime win against Queens. All told, Pierpont had four ground balls, five caused turnovers and three draw controls on the week.
- The Eagles and Royals had a double overtime thriller on Saturday at Eagle Field, taking down the Royals for the first time in program history, and the first double-overtime win since Butler in 2023 (Triple OT).
- Iris Leavitt and Christina Warren also netted hattricks, as Warren pushed her season total to seven goals.
- Winthrop and Campbell battled to the wire, with the Fightin' Camels coming out on top 16-15.
- Tori Iannotti, Iris Leavitt, and Christina Warren all notched a hattrick or more in the contest against Campbell.
- Lily Davis earned Big South Defender of the Week, the first time that a Winthrop athlete earned defensive player of the week since Kelsey Johnson in 2022.
- Davis scooped up a career-high eight ground balls, tied for the second-most in a single game in Winthrop history, also causing three turnovers and scoring her first career goal off a caused turnover.
- The Eagles opened their season with a dramatic overtime win against Kennesaw State, coming back tie the game with less 30 seconds left, to eventually win it in overtime.
- Emily Hollinger scored a hattrick against the Owls, and the emphatic overtime winner.
- The Winthrop University women's lacrosse team was slated to finish fifth in the 2026 Big South Preseason Poll, announced by the conference office this afternoon.
- This marks the Eagles highest preseason ranking since 2023, when the Eagles were also placed fifth.
- Winthrop made their first trip back to the Big South Tournament since 2022 last season, after a 4-4 conference campaign, earning the fifth seed, and falling to three-seeded Wofford in a one-score thriller.
- Four of the top five point getters for the Eagles return for 2026.
- Mikaylah Lindsay returns to the crease, after playing in 16 games and starting 12.
- Lily Davis ranked eleventh in the conference in caused turnovers per game at 1.29.
- Christina Warren was also eleventh in the Big South in goals per game at 2.46.
- Lindsay ranked 82nd in the nation in saves and 80th in saves per game in 2025.
- Winthrop returns 21 from last season's roster and adds massive depth with 14 newcomers.
