Eagles Strong Offense Not Enough Against Furman

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University lacrosse team fell to Furman, 16-13, on Saturday at Eagle Field after the Paladins' decisive final-quarter run. 

FIRST QUARTER 

  • Furman's Shae Insinga opened the scoring at 13:03, giving the Paladins an early lead.   
  • Iris Leavitt responded for the Eagles with a free position goal at 12:36, tying the game at 1-1.   
  • The Paladins regained the lead with back-to-back goals from Lily Toole and Skylar Hilmer.   
  • Tori Iannotti scored a player-up goal assisted by Mollie Calabrese at 10:29, narrowing the gap to 3-2.   
  • Iannotti added another goal from a free position at 2:07, achieving a season-high with her two extra man goals.   
  • Furman extended their lead with goals from Reynolds Hester and Toole, ending the quarter ahead 5-3. 

SECOND QUARTER 

  • Iannotti opened the scoring with a player-up goal at 11:38, assisted by Calabrese, bringing the Eagles within one.   
  • Furman's Lily Mosser scored at 7:36, but the Eagles quickly responded.   
  • Ava-Claire Collins scored at 3:04, leveling the score at 6-6.   
  • Gabby Pierpont, assisted by Iannotti, put the Eagles ahead with a goal at 1:09.   
  • Calabrese capped off the quarter with a goal at 00:23, securing a 7-6 lead for the Eagles. 

THIRD QUARTER 

  • Audrey Argonish scored at 14:03, assisted by Iannotti, extending the Eagles' lead to 8-6.   
  • Furman's Emily Muir responded quickly with a goal at 12:52, tying the game at 8-8.   
  • Iannotti scored twice more for the Eagles at 7:36 and 6:52 with assistance from Pierpont, pushing the lead to 9-7.   
  • A yellow card on Winthrop's Abigail Hand led to a flurry of Furman scoring, including a free position goal by Marin Hodor.   
  • The quarter ended tied at 11-11 after Leavitt's goal at 1:26. 

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Marin Hodor initiated the scoring for Furman at 14:31, putting them ahead.   
  • Collins scored for the Eagles at 12:58, briefly leveling the score.   
  • Furman's Allie Kandel scored a player-up goal at 9:26, regaining the lead.   
  • Leavitt tied it again for Winthrop at 8:26.   
  • Furman then surged ahead with goals from Toole and Hodor at 6:20 and 5:40, respectively.  
  • Reynolds Hester sealed the win for Furman with a goal at 1:59, cementing their 16-13 victory. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Tori Iannotti led Winthrop with 5 goals and 2 assists, achieving a season-high with her two extra man goals.   
  • Iris Leavitt scored 3 goals, including a free-position goal.   
  • Ava-Claire Collins contributed 2 goals.   
  • Mikaylah Lindsay made 10 saves on 35 shots faced.   
  • Despite the loss, Winthrop led in shots on goal, showcasing their offensive efforts.   
  • This game marked the first time since 2022 that the Eagles had double-digit goals against Furman.
