Angela Georgieva were named Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week announced by the league office Friday afternoon.
Winthrop split the weekend's matches with Marshall and Miami (OH) but
Alisa Soloveva was perfect on the weekend. On Friday against Marshall, Soloveva and her partner
Rafaela Santos won at No. 2 doubles 6-4, while Soloveva went on to win at No. 1 singles. In Winthrop's sweep over the Redhawks, the senior won at No. 1 singles for the fourth straight match. Soloveva and Santos also won again at No. 2 doubles. Soloveva is currently ranked 76
th in the nation.
Angela Georgieva won both No. 6 single matches this weekend, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 against Marshall and convincingly against Miami (OH), 6-2, 6-1. The freshman also won at No. 3 doubles with her partner
Samantha Nanere against the Redhawks.
The Eagles are back in action Friday at 2 p.m. at UNC Asheville and will return home to host Campbell at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
