Rock Hill, S.C. – For a 13
th consecutive year the Winthrop women's tennis team earned Division I Women ITA All-Academic Team recognition. In addition to the team honor, the Eagles had three members named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Tayla Van Eck,
Rafaela Santos and
Alisa Soloveva were the three Eagles to earn the academic recognition. This is the third straight year for Van Eck, the second straight for Soloveva and the first for Santos.
Winthrop was 1-of-7 Big South Conference institutions recognized along with Asheville, Campbell, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian College, Radford and USC Upstate. This was the third time in the last four seasons that the Big South had at least seven members earned All-Academic Team honors (2017/2019).
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
