Gardner-Webb Match Postponed, Eagles To Take On Georgia Southern Sunday

Rock Hill, S.C.- Winthrop men's tennis returns to the courts this weekend when they face Georgia Southern in Rock Hill on Sunday. The Eagles match slated for Friday against Gardner-Webb has been moved to March 17 at 3:30 p.m.

NOTES FROM THE NEST

Winthrop enters the weekend after splitting last week's matches against Wofford and UNC Asheville.
The Eagles have gotten stellar play from Abhimanyu Vannemreddy at No. 1 singles. The freshman has won four straight singles matches entering Friday.
Senior, Gabriel Dias has returned to singles action. Dias missed the first few weeks of the season and began his season playing only doubles matches. Dias lost his first singles match against UNC Asheville but looks to bounce back Friday against the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Connor Williamson and Abhimanyu Vannemreddy have won back-to-back matches at No. 2 doubles heading into the weekend.
Freshmen have been key contributors for the Eagles in 2020. Along with Vannemreddy, Miha Velicki and James Hartson have appeared in every singles lineup for Winthrop this season.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN

Georgia Southern is 8-9 on the season and has lost their last four matches.
Murphy McCullough sports a 4-8 record at No. 1 singles.
Alexandros Roumpis has been the Eagles most dominant singles player. The freshman is 8-3 at No. 4 singles and 1-2 at No. 3 singles.
Sander Koenig enters his 6th season as the head coach at Georiga Southern. Koenig was the 2017-2018 Sun Belt Conference Co-Coach of the Year.
