Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop men's tennis looks to snap their losing streak this weekend when they take on Elon and UNCG.
 

LATEST ON THE EAGLES
Despite an 0-5 start, there have been positives for the Eagles this spring. Abhimanyu Vannemreddy has been solid at No. 1 singles for Winthrop posting a 3-2 record.  The freshman has already been named Big South Freshman of the Week along with Big South Player of the Week.
 
The Eagles have also seen plenty of freshmen besides Vannemreddy receive playing time in the early season. James Hartson, Miha Velicki and Enzo Silveira have all been key contributors for Winthrop to start the season.
 
FOCUS ON THE PHOENIX
Elon enters the weekend 0-4 on the season.  The Phoenix have challenged themselves early in the season with matches at NC State, Duke, and North Carolina.  Prior to Saturday's matchup with the Eagles, Elon will square off with NC Central at home on Friday for their home opener. Elon players to watch include Felipe Sarrasague and Felipe Osses-Konig.
 
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
UNCG opens their season Sunday against Winthrop.  The Spartans went 7-15 in 2019, but return several key players from that squad that gained an extra year of experience. Nico Grewe and Ollie Palmer split time at No. 1 singles last spring and both return to lead a Spartan team who could make some noise in the Southern Conference this season.
