ROCK HILL, S.C. - Alexandra Ferreira da Silva has been named Big South Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
In Winthrop's match against JMU on Saturday, Ferreira da Silva and her partner,
Tayla Van Eck, won at No. 2 doubles, 7-5. On Sunday, the freshman battled back to win her No. 3 singles match against Virginia Tech. Ferreira Da Silva dropped the first set 5-7, before taking the second 6-1 and ultimately winning the match 6-4 in the third. This was her first collegiate singles win.
Ferreira da Silva and the Eagles have a weekend off before turning their attention to a matchup with College of Charleston on February 15.
