The Winthrop University men's basketball program halted activities on Wednesday, Nov. 11 following positive cases of COVID-19 among the Tier 1 personnel as a result of surveillance testing. Tier 1 personnel consists of student-athletes, coaches, staff and managers who are quarantining and isolating according to protocol for 10-14 days while we continue to test and contract trace.
Winthrop athletics has worked diligently to follow state, local and university guidelines, making health and safety its top priority for everyone involved in athletic activities. It is unknown at this time what impact the positive cases may have on the opening of the team's season, which is set to begin Nov. 25.
