LATEST ON THE EAGLES
Winthrop dropped their opener to Davidson on January 19, 4-3.  The Eagles took two of the three doubles points to open the day, but unfortunately could not keep their stellar play going into singles.

Freshman, Abhi Vannemreddy was named Big South Player of the Week for his performance against Davidson winning in both singles and doubles. Vannemreddy and partner James Hartson defeated Davidson No. 2 doubles pairing of Fries and Loope, 6-4. The freshman went on to defeat Yash Parikh at No. 1 singles, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.

SCOUTING QUEENS
The meeting with Winthrop will be the Royals first match of the 2020 season.  Last season, these teams met in Rock Hill with the Eagles coming out on top, 6-1.  Queens' lone victory came at No. 3 singles with Paolo Bompieri taking down Connor Williamson, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6.  The Royals had a successful fall 2019 campaign in which they competed against several division one opponents.  Players to look out for include the aforementioned Bompieri along with Sebastian Meum and Kasper Rolfsen.

A LOOK AT FURMAN
Furman enters the weekend at 0-3 before battling Gardner-Webb the day prior to their matchup with Winthrop.  The Paladins schedule has been a challenge early in the season already having faced Florida, Virginia, and Clemson.  It's been just under six years since these two teams have met on the tennis courts and that matchup went the way of the Paladins, 5-2 (2/1/2014). Paladins to watch include Jake Munns who is 1-2 at No. 1 singles along with Ivan Mitric.
