SERIES HISTORY VERSUS WOFFORD COLLEGE
The Eagles and the Terriers meet for the 38th time as the Eagles lead the series 26-9-2 all-time. The two teams met in Rock Hill last year with the Terriers getting a goal in the 72nd minute to hold on for a 1-0 win. The stats were pretty even with Wofford holding an 11-9 edge in shots and the Eagles generating nine corner kicks to Wofford's four. The goal came off the foot of Connor Donohue, who redirected a cross in front of goal into the net. Winthrop has won two of the last three meetings and six of the last eight. In the last five meetings, the losing team has not scored.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS FURMAN
Winthrop and Furman meet for the first time in the regular season since 2015. The Eagles are 0-7 against the Paladins all-time and dropped the last meeting 2-1 in Greenville, SC. This is the first time the team's have squared off in Rock Hill in the regular season since 1995.

A GLANCE AT THE EAGLES
The Eagles opened the season 1-1 in a road swing through Virginia and Maryland last weekend. Jordan Walshaw had a goal and an assist to lead the team to a 2-0 win at VMI in the season opener. Then on Sunday at Mount St. Mary's the Eagles were leading 3-2 before The Mount scored two goals in the final 7:13 to snag the win. Walshaw had two more assists in the game, including the go-ahead goal in the 75th minute off a corner. Eagles are 8-3-1 all-time in the Big South/SoCON Challenge. Daniel Vicaria Barker scored his first collegiate goal, the game-winner at VMI. Sophomore Jonathan Foster netted his first goal of the season at Mount St. Mary's and now has three career goals, two being game-winners. The Eagles have five different goal scorers on the year as Jogvan Jacobsen and Marc Carreras have also found the net.

SCOUTING WOFFORD
The Terriers opened the season in Texas, suffering a 2-0 loss to Houston Baptist and a 2-1 decision at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. This year's team has eight returning starters and 19 total players. This is the home opener for Wofford, who will play four of its next six games at home. Eduardo Velasco scored the lone goal for Wofford last week and Shane Berson was in goal for both games, making seven saves.

SCOUTING FURMAN
The Paladians opened the season 0-1-1 with a 1-0 loss at 10th-ranked Duke and a 3-3 draw at Elon. Cole McLagan has two goals on the year for Furman while Callum Holland has the other. Max Fisher was in goal for both contests and made seven saves. Furman opened the year receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. The Paladins will play at Gardner-Webb on Friday evening as they are in a stretch of three straight contests against Big South competition. After they face the Eagles they will host UNC Asheville on Sept. 11.

10th YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF 2009 BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
This season the Eagles celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2009 Big South Conference Championship team.
The Eagles were coming off a championship in 2008 as it lost some of the greatest players in the history of the program. The Eagles were still loaded with talent and after dropping the opener 3-1 at North Carolina State, they won five in a row. Heading into the Big South Tournament the Eagles were struggling, having lost three straight (outscored 10-1). Winthrop, seeded fourth, defeated Gardner-Webb in penalties to advance to the semifinals and then advanced to the championship after defeating top-seeded Coastal Carolina 4-2 in penalties. The Eagles went on to defeat Liberty 2-1 in the championship game, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season. Winthrop went on to lose 3-2 at 20th-ranked Duke in the opening round of the NCAA College Cup.

BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
The Eagles were voted 7th in the 2019 Big South Conference preseason poll. Winthrop returns nine players that started at least eight games from a team that was 3-5 in the league last year. The Eagles finished in 7th last season, a point out of tying Longwood and USC Upstate for 6th. Defending regular-season champion High Point is the preseason favorite while Radford and Campbell tied for 2nd in the poll.

WHAT'S AHEAD
Eagles will remain at home when they host Stetson on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. Winthrop will then be off seven days before traveling to Georgia State for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday, Sept. 21.
