ROCK HILL, S.C. – Top-seed Winthrop takes on ninth-seeded USC Upstate on Wednesday at 9 a.m. to open play in the Big South Conference Championship in the quarterfinal round. USC Upstate defeated No. 8 Hampton 4-0 in the first round on Tuesday to advance.
 
EAGLE HIGHLIGHTS
-Lauren Proctor earning her fourth-consecutive Player of the Year award highlighted a bevy of Big South Conference awards for the Eagles. Cid Carvalho was named Coach of the Year, four Eagles (Proctor, Alisa Soloveva, Rafaela Santos and Ellie Burns) earned All-Conference in singles, and all three Winthrop doubles duos earned All-Conference honors (Proctor and Megan Kauffman, Soloveva/Santos, Burns/Tayla Van Eck).
 
-With an undefeated 9-0 record, Winthrop won its 20^th regular season Big South title in 2019 and went unbeaten in league play for a second-consecutive season, earning the No. 1 seed in this week's championship.
 
-Winthrop has won at least a share of the regular season Big South title for four-consecutive seasons (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.) In each of the three previous seasons, Winthrop has gone on to win the tournament championship.
 
-Four Eagles ended the regular season undefeated in Big South singles play: Burns (8-0), Proctor (9-0), Santos (9-0) and Soloveva (9-0).
 
NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the latest ITA/Oracle Division I National Rankings released Apr. 16, Megan Kauffman and Lauren Proctor are at No. 41 in the nation in the doubles rankings, while Proctor is No. 55 in the singles list. 
 
THE MATCH-UP
-In the regular season, Winthrop defeated Upstate in a 7-0 sweep on Tue., Apr. 2 on the Spartans' home courts in Spartanburg, S.C.
 
-Prior to this season, Winthrop had not faced USC Upstate since 2008, a 4-3 win for the Eagles.

The winner of this quarterfinal match will advance to the semifinals on Thursday at 3 p.m. The Big South Conference Championship final match is scheduled for Friday at 12 p.m.
