ROCK HILL, S.C. – Top-seed Winthrop takes on ninth-seeded USC Upstate on Wednesday at 9 a.m. to open play in the Big South Conference Championship in the quarterfinal round. USC Upstate defeated No. 8 Hampton 4-0 in the first round on Tuesday to advance.

-With an undefeated 9-0 record, Winthrop won its 20
th regular season Big South title in 2019 and went unbeaten in league play for a second-consecutive season, earning the No. 1 seed in this week's championship.

-Winthrop has won at least a share of the regular season Big South title for four-consecutive seasons (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.) In each of the three previous seasons, Winthrop has gone on to win the tournament championship.

-Four Eagles ended the regular season undefeated in Big South singles play: Burns (8-0), Proctor (9-0), Santos (9-0) and Soloveva (9-0).

-In the regular season, Winthrop defeated Upstate in a 7-0 sweep on Tue., Apr. 2 on the Spartans' home courts in Spartanburg, S.C.
