Eagles Travel To USC Upstate, Coastal In Weekend Road Swing

Winthrop looking to extend three-match winning streak.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop men's tennis wraps up a seven-match road swing with a pair of Palmetto State foes this weekend, taking on new Big South member USC Upstate at 12 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 15 and traveling to Coastal Carolina on Sun., Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.

EAGLE HIGHLIGHTS 
-Junior Connor Williamson earned Big South Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career after going undefeated last week with two wins each in singles and doubles. Williamson has won three-consecutive singles matches in straight-sets.

-The Eagles' success so far this season has followed the doubles point, winning each of the four matches in which they have won the doubles point, and losing the three matches in which their opponents take the opening point.
 
-Senior Diego Quiroz and junior Connor Williamson are 5-1 at the No. 1 doubles position. Quiroz and Williamson went 3-3 in six matches played together in 2018.

THE MATCH-UPS
-New Big South member USC Upstate opened the season with a 7-0 sweep of Belmont Abbey, but fell to Queens 4-3 and Furman 7-0. Winthrop defeated Queens 6-1. Friday's match will be the Spartans' conference opener as an originally scheduled match with Hampton was postponed due to inclement weather.

-Coastal has been taking a tour of its former Big South opponents to start the season, collecting wins over Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian, and taking on Campbell on Friday before hosting Winthrop Sunday. The Chants are 3-1 overall with their sole loss coming to Clemson.

The Eagles return to the friendly confines of Rock Hill Tennis Center to face Radford in Big South action on Fri., Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
