CLINTON, S.C./GREENVILLE, S.C. – Winthrop men's tennis wrapped up its fall slate of competition with split squad competition at the Big South Fall Invitational and the Furman Hidden Dual Friday through Sunday.
 
Gabriel Dias, Abhimanyu Vannemreddy and Connor Williamson headed to Presbyterian College to represent Winthrop at the Big South individual competition. Each Eagle won his first match in straight sets to advance to the Round of 16. Dias and Vannemreddy each advanced to the quarterfinals, making Winthrop one of only two schools with multiple players in the quarterfinal round (Campbell.) Dias downed Guilherme Sergio (Longwood) in a three-set battle 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 while Vannemreddy pushed past host PC's Oscar Alvarez 7-6(5), 6-3.
 
Williamson's run was ended by the event's eventual champion, Longwood's Amadeo Blasco, one of the league's top returning players, 6-2, 6-2. Dias and Vannemreddy were downed in the semifinals with Dias falling to PC's Max Benson and Vannemreddy coming up just short in a marathon three-setter. Event finalist Bastien Huon of Campbell outlasted Vannemreddy 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(6).
 
The remainder of the squad traveled to Furman for a hidden-dual style tournament playing doubles and singles with Appalachian State, UNC Greensboro and host Furman. Each of the Eagles' opponents were playing with their full squads. The tournament was highlighted by Winthrop sophomore Lluis Miralles earning a victory at the top of the lineup over UNCG's Hugh Knapp, a 2019 SoCon All-Freshman Team selection.
