CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Winthrop women's tennis competed at the Charlotte 49er Invite Friday and Saturday. The Eagles squad was represented by junior Rafaela Santos and freshmen Angela Georgieva and Samantha Nanere.  
 
Winthrop struggled on day one against Coastal Carolina, with its lone win delivered by Georgieva in Flight B. On the second day of competition, Santos opened with a straight-set victory over Wofford's Jenna Vroman 7-5, 6-3. Conference foe Zoe Cauthen of Charleston Southern downed Santos in a closely contested three-set decision, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8).
 
Georgieva and Nanere would fall in straight-sets against their Wofford foes, and take their Charleston Southern opponents to third-set tiebreaker decisions.
 
Winthrop rounds out the fall season competing at the ITA Carolina Regional Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C. beginning on Oct. 24. The final competition of the fall is set for Nov. 1 at the CofC Classic in Charleston, S.C.
